Situata a metà strada da Roma e da Viterbo, la storia e le leggende sulle origini del borgo sono antichissime. Probabilmente un nucleo abitato esisteva già nell’età del bronzo e nel corso dei secoli ha visto succedersi i popoli falisci, etruschi, romani e longobardi. Le innumerevoli testimonianze storiche si possono ammirare diffuse nel Parco Archeologico Regionale: dall’Anfiteatro Romano alla Necropoli Romana, al Mitreo, dove reperti etruschi e romani si intrecciano con i resti di un Castello e una Villa nobiliare ben conservata.
Nel centro storico sono numerose le tracce di un passato ancora intatto, la Cattedrale e le varie chiese, le antiche porte, i palazzi e la Piazza del Comune sono collegati da stradine cariche di storia e di arte che si respirano ad ogni angolo. Facendole così ottenere la prestigiosa Bandiera Arancione dal Touring Club Italiano.
L’Antichissima Città di Sutri offre spunti per le esigenze di qualunque viaggiatore, dall’ottima gastronomia, all’incredibile ospitalità dei suoi abitanti, alla storia e ai luoghi d’arte, fino per trascorrere una giornata nel verde seguendo i sentieri che attraversano il territorio circostante, dove le antiche testimonianze affiorano in una natura rigogliosa.

Situated half way between Rome and Viterbo, the history and legends about the origin of the village are very ancient. Probably an inhabited household already existed in the Bronze Age and during the centuries it has seen the Faliscan, Etruscan, Roman and Lombard peoples succeed one another. The countless historical evidence can be admired throughout the Regional Archaeological Park: from the Roman Amphitheatre to the Roman Necropolis, to the Mithraeum, where Etruscan and Roman relics are intertwined with the remains of a Castle and a well-preserved noble Villa. In the Old Town there are numerous traces of a past still intact, the Cathedral and several churches, ancient gates, palaces and the Town Hall Square (Piazza del Comune) are connected by alleyways full of history and art which you can breathe at every corner. Therefore, it obtained the prestigious title of Orange Flag from the Italian Touring Club.
The Ancient City of Sutri offers cues for the need of every traveller, from excellent gastronomy, to the incredible hospitality of its inhabitants, to the history and places of art, to spending a day in the countryside by following the paths that cross the surrounding territory, where ancient monuments emerge in a lush nature.
